    I love Xmas!
I love Christmas! It's the only time when even Mormons celebrate a single girl giving birth to a child from an extramarital union! :-) Well, her and Bristol Palin of course... Interestingly, Brigham Young always preached that God conceived Mary's child in a "normal fashion"...

    Made for Hollywood
Sometimes there are real jewels in the BoM (Ether this time):

29 (...) And it came to pass that when they had all fallen by the sword, save it were Coriantumr and Shiz, behold Shiz had fainted with the loss of blood.
30 And it came to pass that when Coriantumr had leaned upon his sword, that he rested a little, he smote off the head of Shiz.
31 And it came to pass that after he had smitten off the head of Shiz, that Shiz raised up on his hands and fell; and after that he had struggled for breath, he died.

Was it the separated head or the headless body (doing push-ups after major blood loss?) that was struggling for breath?

I can see it on a big screen already! :-)

    Jon Krakauer
Has anyone here read Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer? I've heard good (and bad, of course) about it, and recently have been delving into some of the historical texts about the Church (including One Nation Under Gods by Richard Abanes and No Man Knows My History by Fawn Brodie).

Worth reading? Accurate? One-sided and libelous as the Church likes to claim?

    Twi-thoughts
Ok guys. I just can't resist it. Who else finds the obvious Mormonosity of Twilight simultaneously hysterical and disturbing? Only one of my good friends is a fan, and none of my good friends are LDS, so I'm restricted to giggling by myself.

Actually, if I didn't have actual papers to write, I'd write up something about the Mormon theological underpinnings of the entire series.

    Thoughts?
